Getting 7-8 hours of good quality sleep each night is vital! Next, make sure you reach for that water bottle (not a plastic one). Staying hydrated helps eliminate toxins from the body, helping your immune system fight infection more efficiently. Finally, managing stress is a must. Easier said than done, I know! Try meditating or practicing mindfulness. Not sure where to start? Try eating your next meal mindfully. It’s important to be in “rest-and-digest mode” not the stressed, “fight-or-flight mode” while eating. When you eat in ‘fight-or-flight”, functions of the digestive tract are suppressed which can lead to upset stomach, acid reflux, indigestion and other digestive ailments. Take a few deep breaths before each meal to reset and relax before you begin eating. Don’t rush through. Take your time to experience every aspect of the meal. Be mindful of the smell, taste, and texture of each bite. Relax, savor, and enjoy your meals to help improve digestion, stay centered, and minimize the harmful effects of stress.
